GoI to implement more Safety Codes ofILO: Dr. Avneesh Singh

The Government of India (GoI) headed by NarendraModi is taking more positive approach towards the industrialization and try to implement more number of Behavioral Safety Codes recommended by the International Labour Organization (ILO) , announced byDrAvneesh Singh, Director General, Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes, Ministry of Labour, GoI (FASLI).

Inaugurating the 2nd National Conference of the Forum of Behavioural Safety(BESAFE) organized at NITIE, Powai, DrAvneesh Singh today said as of now only 43 Codes has been recognized out of total 188 codes stipulated by ILO.

The Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) is in very initial stage and will require more time to implement in various sectors of Indian economy, Dr Singh added.

Earlier in his welcome speech Dr H L Kaila, Director, BESAFE,said“As per figures given by the ILO around 23 lakh people die every year in the world due to such industrial accidents due to behavioural causes and the global economy is not only losing the valuable manpower but also big chunk of revenues.

With in last few years the implementation of BBS have gone up considerably and as of now around 10,000 units belong to various sectors of industriesin India have adopted the BBS. These units belongto both Public Sector as well as private sector and they have linked BBS to production levels but we need to go a long way, Dr Kaila added .

The GoI should include the BBS into skill development program, Dr Kaila suggested.

The corporate India have to redefine the  Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) as Big Brother Safety and should change the work force behavior from risk to better through reward program.

Dr S K Singh, Director, BESAFE, said “ The Government of India should teach BBS regulations through various educational institutes including Colleges and other training institutes. It will provide basic information about behaviouralsafety to everybody. The Indian corporates should adopt BBS and aim for Zero unsafe behavior.

The BESAFE has also given 12 BBS corporate recognition awards and 29 certificates to its BBS ambassadors. The awardees from the Indian corporates include GAIL, Adani Ports, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, Bajaj Auto, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Jindal Steel Ltd, L& T, Tata Projects, Sterlite Power, Volkswagen India, Vedanta Ltd, and HPCL.

The chief Guest, DrAvneesh Singh also released the first Souvenir of BESAFE and BBS documentary film on BBS prepared by PansworldTelevisions Ltd.Around a dozen of well known Indian companies have presented their BBS success case studies.

In fact, BESAFE have trained around 45,000 BBS mentors and observers over a period of last 17 years guided by Dr Kaila .
